Glass Reactor vs Stainless Steel Reactor

Home > Equipment Guides

Compare glass and stainless steel reactors by visibility, material compatibility, operating limits, cleaning and process requirements.

Start with the material and process

Glass vessels allow direct observation of mixing and phase changes. Stainless steel vessels provide a different construction option for process equipment. Neither material is compatible with every chemical: confirm the complete wetted-material list, including seals, valves and stirrers.

Temperature and pressure are model-specific

Compare documented vessel and jacket limits, allowable vacuum, thermal-change limits and the intended process. Do not select a positive-pressure application from a material name or product photograph. Obtain the applicable design documents for the exact configuration.

Compare agitation and cleaning

Consider working volume, viscosity, solids, stirrer geometry, drive requirements, access for cleaning and bottom-discharge design. These may determine suitability more strongly than the vessel material alone.

Prepare a comparable quotation

Give both suppliers the same material, batch size, temperature profile and pressure requirements. Ask what is included in the vessel, circulator, condenser, controls and spare-parts scope.
